I am thinking of modifying the Dragon Disciple kit slightly for when I play the Enhanced Edition of Icewind Dale (which has the same kit as the Baldur's Gate Enhanced Editions) and am wondering what you think about these tweaks as far as game balance is concerned.

Breath weapon: gains extra uses at levels 8, 13, 18, 23, 28 (total of 6 uses at level 28+)
Fire resistance: Increases to 125% at level 20 (this makes fire heal the character slightly)
At level 25: +1 AC and Constitution
At level 30: +1 AC

(Should breath damage continue to increase past 18, capping out at 12d8 at level 30? Keep in mind that, since this would be Icewind Dale, that Heart of Fury mode would be in effect, so enemies have a lot of hit points.)

Note that I am also planning on using the un-nerfed Sorcerer spell progression tweak, mainly because every other spellcaster continues to get spells per day past level 20.

I'm just wondering if there are any potential balance issues with these changes.

Dragon Disciple is a weaker kit than base sorcerer even if you power up the breath weapon and add some AC and con. I see no issue.

That said, how do you go about modifying the spell progression to be more fair and make these mods to the kits? I wouldn't mind making my own version of Dragon Disciple to try and at least even out its power with the base class.

You use a tool like DLTCEP or Near Infinity to edit the kit and spell progression. I believe the Dragon Disciple uses the Sorcerer spell progression with a kit effect that reduces the spells per day of each level. If you only want to modify the DD spell progression without changing Sorcerer, you need to add or remove effects from the Dragon Disciple. To modify the Sorcerer spell progression, you need to edit the appropriate 2DA file.

Alternatively, you can find documents on the file formats used by the Infinity Engine at

There's information on making kit mods at

Dragon Disciple is a powerful kit at medium levels but later they they don't get enough compensation for the extra high level spell casting per day sorcerers get so your changes would make the kit more balanced.

Breath damage can increase, even 12d8 isn't much compared to what a level 30 caster can do.
I love the idea of increasing the number of times you can use the breath weapon based on leveling up.
