A few weeks ago I started another try with the Baldurs Gate Saga. So far I am really enjoying it!
Although I started BG 1 and 2 many times in the past I haven't played through any of the BG games yet. But right now I am really hooked and I've never been that far into the game before.
At the moment I am in chapter 3 and I came to the conclusion that I should have played the modded classic version instead because I stumbled upon some little EE-related bugs. Nothing too crucial but really annoying.
Therefore I'd like to continue with BG 2 after I've completed BG 1 but this time with the classic version.
Since EE has its own kits, npcs etc I fear that I will encounter some troubles while importing my BG 1 character to the classic version.
Is it still possible with some tricks or should I start BG 2 with a new character instead to avoid failures etc?
You can't import an EE character into a classic version of BG2.

As Styg said, you can't import EE into non-EE. If you chose a class available in the non-EE, then you can (probably) basically remake the character when you start BG2 using some cheat codes (or one of the game editors, depending on how exotic the needed changes are).

+1

I just wanted to say that this is the proper way to go. I remember there was a way to import EE game to classics and vise versa but that caused some serious problems later in the game. My memory is fussy and I do not want to misguide you but mixing EE with classics is not intended.

BTW, Chapter 3 is not really late in the game. You still have a long way to go.

BTW2, Game design, enemies, levels etc are slightly different between BG1 and BG2 (independed from being EE or not) so you may want to try an other character for BG2.
