Hi, I'm playing the original, non-enhanced BG (sold as Baldur's Gate: The Original Saga), and trying to remember if there was some way to switch between 640x480 and 800x600 resolutions. I am quite fine with the GPU scaling the lower resolution to full screen with the correct aspect ratio, and really like the "old-timey feeling" of the original BG1 engine, but according to some old posts TotSC did introduce 800x600 support and optional, different fonts to the original., and I got curious.

I do have vague memories of trying 800x600 20+ years ago, though I can't remember if it was only in BG2.

So.. is there some configuration setting or tool that I can run to switch resolutions in the original? I did try the widescreen mod, but was not so happy with some screens moving to the upper left corner.

The original is only in 640x480 resolution, even with TotSC expansion. The higher resolution was introduced with later Infinity Engine games (probably BG2).

So you either can play with the original resolution stretched with black bars on the sides, to keep the aspect ratio, or you can use a mod that adjusts the GUI with widescreen mod:

It works with selected resolutions listed in the post, but I find it as a great improvement if widescreen mod is necessary.
Yes BG2 indeed offered 800x600 as well. Back then that was sufficient resolution.
