I've played NWN twice, and I don't think I've ever finished it.

I'm fuzzy on the gameplay, but I remember getting ticked off because every room had three chests in it, and two were always locked/trapped. I also remember Act I being a bit lengthy.

I remember loving the expansions though.

The campaign that came with the core game was weak, to say the least, and just plain bad and embarrassing when compared to BioWare's previous efforts. The amount of "chest/barrel-bashing" in the game is a running joke to this day. I've never finished it either. Shadows of Undrentide was decent, but too easy and too short. Hordes of the Underdark was awesome and definitely my fondest memory of the original NWN series :-)

NWN's official campaign was definitely weak, although I did play through it 3 or 4 times. But it's the stuff on the vault and playing on a server that really makes the game shine. Combined with the mountain of modules for single player available on the vault, if you can also find a server you like, you'll be set for months, if not years, of playing.

As you know I'm a newbie ... can you clarify what are the "modules"?

Ah, sorry. Modules are adventures you can download and install in your game. They're separate from the main campaign. Basically completely separate stories you can play your character(s) through.

So I can think to the modules as "single scenarios" opposed to the regular campaigns?

I can't remember right now , I have bought a lot of games here on GOG in the last days as mentioned by myself above in this thread, but I have seen the choice to load modules ... maybe was NWN 1 ... I mean one of the games has already some fan modules to try.

Yes, that's a good way to think of it.
