I'm probably being a bit thick, have been enjoying the nostalgia of the game so far.

53 hours in, I suddenly cannot 'lose' my screenbars no matter what, game will not maximise to full, and I cannot use mouse to edge where i want to be on the map.

I can of course use arrow keys, but this slows me down and takes away the charm of the game (which I have fallen in love with all over again).

Am i just being a bit dumb or is there a simple fix?

I'm not sure what you mean by "cannot lose screenbars", but losing mouse control and no full screen sounds like you have put the game into windowed mode. If this is the case, to fix it simply press ALT+ENTER while the game window has focus.
