I started a BGT game as a Chaotic-Evil sorcerer and began the game that way. Played through BG1 with a mostly evil party plus Imoen.
Slowly, through the influence of Imoen and Jaheira (and Minsc's heroic ways), by the end of SOA he had turned to the good side.
So there I was, making the 'good' choices for Bhaal's tears and expecting an alignment shift - only it didn't happen. I'm now in TOB and he's still down as Chaotic-Evil.

I know I can change it with ShadowKeeper if I want - I'm just curious if there's a reason or a bug with BGT that it didn't change.

My reputation was 16 at the time (so 'liked' but not 'heroic') - maybe that was it?

I believe that the Trials can only change your alignment to evil, not the other way around. Don't quote me on that, though. :p
Your alignment has nothing to do with your reputation. Your reputation can be influenced by your alignment, at least as far as certain things go, but not the other way around.

However, there is a point in the game -- where you become able to change into the Slayer -- where your alignment shifts slightly, according to certain factors. For instance, a Neutral Good player would shift towards Chaotic.

The Bhaal trials will shift you towards either Good or Evil (not Neutral without a mod).

There is no bug in BGT with regards to any of this.

Hmmm, well something's odd with my game then because I definitely did the trials the 'good' way but there was no alignment shift.
(I know alignment isn't about reputation - just wondered if you needed a good reputation for the 'shift' to work - there must be something else I've done / not done.

I'll leave this open a little longer in case anyone else has any ideas why it wouldn't have shifted.

For now, I'll just use SK to shift it and play on.
Ok, it's been a long time since I played ToB, so I just did some checking. You do gain rewards for choosing the 'Good' or 'Evil' path, appropriately. However, your alignment shift is a one-way thing: only to Neutral Evil if you choose *any* of the Evil paths during the trial of the tears.

Oh, well that's a bit one-sided then.

I guess they didn't have redemption in mind when they made the game, lol

At least I know my game's not broken :)
Thanks for checking.
Does this mean when you play a paladin, ranger or monk you change the class when choosing any evil path?
I know that paladins and rangers become fighters when your reputation gets too low, but I think this is the only moment in the game where your alignment can change. There was only one time when I choose the evil path and this was with an evil char. You can call this role playing, if you want.

There is a bug in ToB whereby a Paladin will become Neutral Evil but retain his/her paladin abilities if any of the 'evil' paths are taken in the Tears Of Bhaal trials. I am not sure if the BG2 fixpack corrects this, but if not there is a fix for it here.
