Hi there :)

I cant decied between some of my planed party companions. Its a good idea to get 4 melees ? Because of clustering problems and enemy AoE spells.

Ill definitly get:

- PC Fighter 9 / dual classed mage. dual wilding katanas.
- Jaheira one handed (scimitars?) +shield OR maybe Anomen.. cant decide, or maybe get booth? ^^
- Jan mostly for thiefing skills and good magic damage , using short bows or x-bows
- Nalia with shortbows as main caster, maybe Neera

Okay but now comes the problem... i only know melees which could fit into the party , but i already got my PC fighter and jaheira.

- Minsc dual wilding maces/flails , could swap to composite bows if necessarry.
- Keldorn with two handed swords or maybe Anomen using dex gloves with. warhammer/mace and shield

What do you think? Should i add a good archer/fighter instead of minsc or keldorn?

Sure it works...
Keep in mind that 2 handed weapons (2h-sword, halberds, staves) have a longer reach than for example longswords, axes, flails.

So I usually have when dungeon crawling (tight spaces):
2 x characters at the front with hammer/flails/swords/axes with armor+buffs
2 x characters with longer reach weapons
1 x with thief multiclass
1 x anything or nothing

Btw slings and throwing axes also adds the characters str bonus to the damage.
I have played with Jan in my group and he is solid and very useful although he doesn't get many kills.

Edwin is overpowered, my main caster.

Range combat was king in BG1 but not so in BG2. 4 melee characters is good.

Mincs is a MUST for me with flail of ages and another weapon

Have at least one person that can raise dead/resurrect/harpers call.

Your PC could also be Kensai-->Mage, very powerul build or even a multiclassed fighter/mage, the celestial fury will be good for a long time

Read some guides at gamefaqs to get ideas.
