So, I am running BG1 inside of BG2 with the BGT mod. I decided to play a multi-class Fighter/Mage/Thief and figured that the experience cap was only applied per class. Turns out it isn't so. What I am wondering is, and could not find out from searching (aside from finding the experience caps removers), is if using these XP cap removers in a pre-existing save will mess me up, assuming that anyone trusts XP cap removers at all and don't break the game in general. Also, if anyone knows which XP cap remover to use, if any, I'd appreciate the advice.

An XP cap remover cannot break your game. At worst it will make your character and henchment hideously overpowered. As for which one, they all do exactly the same thing, so just pick one.
My BGT seems to have removed the XP cap anyway (I'm not sure where else this could have come from -- all I had was BGT and the Fixpack -- not the Tweakpack, which is the one that allows you to remove the cap).

But anyway, while installing such a mod wouldn't create a game-breaking bug, I feel like it breaks the game in the sense of making it too easy. My party without the cap felt overpowered for parts of the game, and I often found myself wishing for more of a challenge. But then there's the parts that are absurdly hard regardless, like Sarevok and Draconis and Amelyssan, and it's hard to imagine having ever been able to beat them with a less powerful party, even with clever strategizing and some metagaming (and without glitch exploitation). Difficulty balance is weird in this series.
