At the fields below Baldur's Gate, a NPC gave me a quest about killing Ankhegs but not more than 4. After 4 catch and release. How is that possible? I finished BG1 many times before but I always killed every Ankheg at that region. This time I am wondering if there is a way to somehow succeed at that quest.

I am playing EE edition this time. This is my first EE run.

Thanks.

I'm pretty sure all you had to do in that quest was give 4 ankheg shells to the quest giver. After that, he just doesn't give you any gold for additional kills. I'm not sure what the point of the quest giver saying "catch and release" was either but it doesn't seem to affect anything.

But yeah, to complete the quest, just give the guy 4 ankheg shells
The 'culling' blurb is just that, blurb and has no bearing on the quest. Gerde actually wants 10 ankhegs killed, and she gives you 75gp.
I killed all of them. And I dont feel bad about it. :)

I talked to her after killing 4 and she gave me the reward. Maybe that is for the EE editions.
