Hi,
I have installed Baldur's Gate: The Original Saga and decided to use the Widescreen mod to play it at 1920x1080 on my 16:9 monitor. Everything went well, but the GUI became a mess (look at the first picture). I found out that TWM_GUI might help so I used it. However it supports 1280x768 only, so I was forced to reinstal the Widescreen mod and use TWM_GUI. But the grahpics arent as sharp as I wanted to be, because the res 1280x768 is stretched to 1920x1080 (take a look on the second picture).

Now what. Play it at 1920x1080 with broken GUI or play it at 1280x768 with blurry graphics? Is there any way to fix GUI at 1920x1080? I really dont understand why TWM_GUI doesnt support such high resolutions. I dont want to install the "Baldurs Gate Trilogy" because I am a first time player so I want the game to be as vanilla as it could be when it comes to the game's gameplay and engine.

In addition, that black area with blocky borders is pain in the ass. Someone said to me that I should buy the Original Saga instead of Enhanced Edition, because it is cheaper and I could mod it within 3 seconds to get the same modern experience. Nah, what a bullshit....

Well, any ideas? Could someone help me? :(

Baldur's Gate is a game made with fixed 640x480 assets. The widescreen mod can work because it can, in effect, zoom out to show more of the map. The assets do not scale, and this includes the UI. I have the same native resolution as you, and playing widescreen at that resolution is just horrible. The beautifully hand drawn assets just don't look the same, and everything is just too small anyway. But to answer your question about the blocky fog of war borders, try setting colour depth to 16 and enable software BLT.
Not sure why you would want to play it at 1920x1080 resolution, considering GUI and assets won't scale, so both will be tiny. I found that 1600x900 was a reasonable compromise. Characters, objects and GUI isn't tiny, and the game looks good.

There is something weird going on with your GUI in the first picture, but I'm not sure how to fix that. It's not supposed to get torn up like that. The icons and such will be small due to the high resolution, but the text field and so forth should stretch across the screen, like happens in your 2nd picture.

I set the resolution 1600x900 and this is how the game looks like. No big deal here. The same problem remains :( Take a look at the sec picture showing menu. It is just situated in the upper left quarter of the screen....

You have to understand that the widescreen mod effects only the main playing screen. As I said earlier, assets do not scale. What you are seeing is 'normal' without another GUI mod.

I know :) That is why I asked if there is any way to fix it. There is a patch called TWM_GUI which fixes GUI but only at 1280x768 when it comes to 16:9 :(

This is one of the reasons that the widescreen mod is right at the bottom of my likes list. You could try W_GUI, but again it's an unfinished beta.
