Hello All,

I just purchased and installed the GOG version of BG1 (v1.3.5521) and am looking forward to playing the game. I am very much confused by the different patches and versions of the game which are being discussed in this forum. Are there any patches I should install on my GOG version of the game to make it more enjoyable or playable? If yes, where can I find these patches?

TIA for any help you can give me.

Hickory: If the enhanced version scales properly, a difference in resolution cannot be to blame.

ncarty97: I looks to me that the screen shot itself was what was increased in size, not the game itself. I've got EE up on my Surface right now and it doesn't looks very crisp.
The screenshot was not altered in any way, except for being cropped -- it was not scaled or mutilated in any other manner. What you see is what was on the clipboard. The EE *is* inferior in image quality, not having the original assets.

No. You do not need *any* patches or fixes for the GOG version. Install it and enjoy.

ncarty97: I'm not sure what you mean by not being able to see ammo is selected. I guess maybe it was highlighted in the original? I just checked it and you can tell the different (the border is a different color on the square), but it definitely doesn't stand out.

Hickory: See attached and tell me that you can seriously tell which ammunition is selected in the EE version (bottom pic).
Either you guys are visually impaired, or I have some sort of supervision, but I've never had any difficulties telling which ammo was selected in BG:EE. In your example, the regular arrows were obviously in use, since they had much darker background than the other ones.

There are some mods listed in a sticky thread that you might find useful, albeit not strictly speaking necessary. Unfinished Business includes material that for whatever reason was supposed to make it into the final game but got cut, Tutu allows you to play BG1 using the BG2 engine if you own BG2 (doing so lets you keep the game paused while looking at the inventory and makes the BG2 kits available), and I seem to remember something about making otherwise unstackable valuables like rings and necklaces stack. Again, not necessary, but you should check out the thread to see if anything in particular appeals to you.

Or neither. Maybe you are just too easily pleased. You can tell, but only just; the background is far from 'much' darker, it appears to be a mask of a slightly darker grey compared to a bluer grey. Very bad design, no matter what you say.

Too easily pleased about what? Like I said, I have always been able to see which ammo my characters were using in BG:EE, since the background of the selected ammo IS in my eyes much darker than those of the unselected ones.
I don't really like using mods for BG, but the EE's UI was giving me eye cancer, so I needed to search for a mod.
I'm using Archaic GUI, and it looks pretty nice. It's also much easier to tell which ammo is selected :)

Too easily pleased about shoddy design.

That looks pretty awesome, especially compared to the original offering. If I ever decide to play EE again, I will certainly look this mod up. Thanks. :)

I just found a post on baldursgate.com forums where Archaic (author) said (last November) that the mod was dead, citing a lack of time. Plus it was an unfinished beta. Ah well... :(

You haven't caused anything. Besides, you weren't to know.
