Hello, my fellow Baldurians.

I bought Bg and BG2 (Enhanced Editions both) yesterday. With BG3 in production one would be wise to revisit this old familiar world for a hundredth time or so. Unfortunately I am blocked by a particularly annoying error.

All goes smoothly right up to the point of the prologue. That is when I get an error window displaying such a message: "Not enough free disk space to save game. Do you wish to quit?". Of course I can click OK and the game runs along - I find myself standing in front of the Candlekeep Inn. I can go into the menu and click "Save game". However, it is not truly saved as it does not show when I re-enter save or load menu, nor can I load it from Main menu. I would love to attach the picture, but for some unknown reasons the forum wouldn't let me.

I am eagerly awaiting your response - maybe some of you were dealing with a similar issue. It is really bugging me - nostalgia is hitting hard and I would love to play the game again. To be blocked by such a banality is annoying at best.

PS. I have enough free disk space - over 100 GB as of now.

Hey!

I'm in the exact same boat. I've tried the few quick fixes I could find in forums but no luck. I can see that the save game names are appearing in the 'Saves' folder in Documents, but not in the root folder under Program Files where the rest of the game is installed. I've tried copying and pasting, even removing the folders in Documents, but they simply regenerate. If I figure it out I'll let you know but if anyone else can help I'd really appreciate it.
As a quick test I would try running the game as an administrator to see if it's a permissions issue preventing BG:EE from writing the save files (so since it cant write the files because of permissions restrictions, the game thinks the drive is out of space).
Thank you all for your responses. Sorry for not replying so long, I got caught up with work and haven't got around entering the forum.

For any of you wondering I have found the solution - very close to what @chrissroy suggested. Running the game as an administrator did not work. What I was forced to do, was to create another account on my computer, strictly and "Administrator" account. I know that by default the first account you create theoretically has admin privileges, but in reality they are blocked. Now I did not simply create an admin account, I had to manually unblock it using command console.

I know the reply is vague at best, I am actively trying to find the site on which I found this solution. When I find it, I will add it to the post. If anyone else knows what I am speaking about, feel free to give the solution.
I've had this happen with NWN 1, and yes indeed it is terribly annoying. Good info in this thread. Thanks for posting.

Not sure if tis message will go through but my fix was easy.

I have Bitdefender which has a ransomware protector. By default, it protects files in certain folders like Documents and Downloads.

I went into Bitdefender and gave BG permission to access the folders.

Fixed!
