Just finished the Black Pits campaign, everyone level 9 or 10, watched/read the outro clip and it went right to the regular BG game. So I clicked on 'New Game' and selected 'Import Character' but the only characters I could select were a party of pre-generated PCs. How do I get my Black Pits PC(s) into the BG game?
You're not really supposed to. BG 1 is meant to be played with characters that start at lvl 1, starting with a PC that completed the Black Pits at lvl 9 would make the game way too easy.

If you still want to I guess you should be able to load a save from the end of your Black Pits playthrough, click on the "export" button from your character sheet, then import it into BG.

Characters aren't automatically exported even if you finish BG btw, so if you want to import a character into BG 2, you'll need to import a BG 1 "final save" or export the character manually, copy his character file into the BG 2 folder then import it when creating a new game.

I was wondering this same thing (about how BG is not designed for level 9/10 PCs so importing such ...) but I keep reading these posts on the Beamdog and numerous other forums talking about exporting characters from the Black pits into BG: EE.

Anyway it seems you are right so thank you for the help.

Because it is against the story. You start the game as Gorion's Ward, probably around a 15 year old child. You will notice that many people will address you as "child" throughout the game. You start out fresh, un-trained, un-experienced, not knowing exactly what you have to do. A simple wolf or a Bear can tear you apart. That feeling that you can die any moment is what made the game more trilling for me. A level 9 character who finished black pits would destroy all the monster in the game like they are made of paper.

Of course but I was assuming the Beamdog guys had accounted for such with scaled up encounters for higher level PCs or some such (and a slightly different backstory for CHARNAME accounting for an older, more experienced ward of Gorion).

They didn't put that much effort into it. Their "Enhanced Edition" is pretty much just a graphics and UI update, with some NPCs added in. Black Pits is just a bonus and has no relevance to the main story except you can recruit the Black Pits boss as an NPC in BG.
I believe that the Tutu and Trilogy mods for the classic editions allow you to import characters from Baldur's Gate 2 and its expansion. This would, for example, allow you to transfer a Fighter with Greater Deathblow into BG1.

Deathblow and Greater Deathblow are often considered useless, because they don't work on enemies higher than a certain level, but they totally break BG1; the fact that everything is lower level allows you to kill pretty much anything with these skills.

(Interestingly, some of the HLAs are reasonably balanced (or are at least semi-balanced) if hacked onto lower level characters, but Deathblow is not one of them.)

Yeah I still play Tutu on my XP rig and still get the impression that this is much better than the BG:EE editions (I can make a half-orc Blackguard in BG tutu for example but can only recruit Dorn in BGEE, which makes no sense at all. Can half-orcs become Paladins(Blackguards) or not?!

The only reasons I grabbed the EE games was because of the huge bundle discount GOG offered last year during that huge sale) and was curious about the new content.

I would assume they're talking about importing into BG2, not BG1. Of course, there are quite a few munchkin players out there, so some may enjoy going through BG1 with an OP character, pwning everything.
