Hi,

is there a story reason, why I should go to the Underdark?
The Mountain Pass is basically the NPC Quest for Lae'zel, but why should I go to the Underdark.
There is a quest to craft a legendary weapon, and if you pass a skill check, that you are told, that you may find some ingredients there, but this was pretty weak.

And I dont want to hear about grinding XP.

With kind regards

Probably the biggest reason is if you rescue Halsin. He advises you to go through the Underdark instead of through the Mountain Pass because it avoids the Shadow Curse as much as possible. Nothing's stopping you story-wise from going to the Mountain Pass anyway following Lae'zel's lead, and then you turn around and follow Halsin's advice to try the Underdark route instead of plunging ahead into the Shadow-Cursed Lands. (Ironically both paths put you at nearly the same place, but you can ignore that as far as the plot is concerned.)
Thanks, this makes sense from a story point.

Following Halsins pointer going to the Underdark via the Goblin Camp, Selunes outpost?
1 a wizard at the gate will pay gobloads for a weapon called nightsong which is somewhere under the goblin camp/ tower
2 Shadowheart feels there is a base of her people somewhere near by... the plot clues for this are a little criptic but its implied she should start looking in the underdark
3 Halsin says underdark in the better way than the shadow lands
there are 5 ways to get there so its a big area...
1 under goblin camp
2 jump down from queen siper area
3 back door from the merchant cave
4 back door from arnty lair
& come in from the shadowlands

Ironically, now that I think about it Halsin's advice is pretty rubbish, isn't it? You don't really avoid the shadow curse by going through the underdark...

That said, the non-story reason is because there's a sh*t ton of XP, and some pretty awesome opportunities for gear down there. I usually do both.

Yeah, Halsin straight-up tells you that he's heard hints of a route to the Underdark hidden in the ruins of the old Selunite temple, but he doesn't know exactly where. That route will take you to the Selunite outpost as a starting point (which is my second favourite starting point. The top is the route from the Zhentarim outpost since it pretty much puts you right next to the Myconid grove.)
