From the version number, it seems that what is named "Hotfix1" on the download page is actually the official hotfix #30.

Why, yes.

GoG has always used a different way to count versions than Larian.

IMHO Larian doesnt really make to much sense.
yes its the first Hotfix after Patch 8

I've always found funny that they named their patches "hotfixes". :D

I was mentioning it so that the GOG maintainers could align their labels on Larian's, just to avoid making it even more confusing. Apparently, it was lost on them (no surprise there).
I consider the current version 8.1, plain and simple. We are on the 8th major patch, or release, or how you want to call it, and we had one minor patch so far. You can call it all kinds of things but thats IMHO the intuitive way of naming program versions.

Calling it "hotfix 30" gives you no context on what major patch you are. You would have to keep book of that separately.

I also for example prefer how Canon numbers their camera - the X, the X mark 2, the X mark 3 etc - over Nikon which creates a true chaos in this regard. The successor of the D600 was the D750, for example. Even if the D750 had nothing to do at all with the D700. Which many people back then thought because of the number. I owned all three of these cameras and the D750 is basically a D600 with some small changes, while the D700 is completely different in concept and user interface.

So yeah the GoG naming is superior.
