edit: sometimes just re-installing the game would fix the issues.

If you have no issues installing GoG Galaxy, you can use GoG Galaxy to revert to an older version of the game.
It only offers upto the last 5 versions of the game.

Once Galaxy is installed, go into settings by clicking the COG wheel on the top left corner and under Game features - uncheck everything - especially "Auto-update games". If you want to keep everything else, you can. Make any other changes.

Click your installed games, select BG3. At the top of the screen, select the icon to the right of <Update> it looks like 2 lines 2 circles. Select > Manage installation > configure and a window will popup.

Select the version you want.

Depending on the game version it may end up re-downloading the game. So be prepared for that.

edit: once you have the version you want installed, un-install GoG Galaxy.

The ONLY other option of reverting to an older version of the game is to download the offline installers for the full game every time there is a full version. Skip the hotfix full version of the games. Just download the offline hotfixes patches.
This is only if you have the storage space to store it long term. Then you can revert to any pervious version you want.

I found out through Reddit that removing 3 .pak files from the Data folder seems to fix this issue. The reddit post stated something along the lines of removing Patch9_Hotfix1.pak, Patch9_Hotfix2.pak and Patch9_Hotfix3.pak would fix the sound issues.

I had the same problem having had to re-install the game a second time yesterday this time because of the 1.5 TB patch 4 (Another story for another time).

Anyways, I re-installed the game and all of the Audio ?channels? except sound effects were working fine. After screwing around a bit I found that the GoG install seems to have a Patch4_Hotfix1.pak, Patch4_Hotfix3.pak and a Patch5_Hotfix2.pak. I removed them started the game up again for the 30th time and all my audio was working again.

Now the question I'd like answered is, What the Hell did I break by cutting those folders out of the Data folder and throwing them somewhere else?

But hey if you want the Sound Effects to work again, it's something to do with whatever is in those .pak files.

So I have read about this issue as well, and it seems when updating the game, the Patch#.pak files are NOT removed when updating the game. With Patch4 and Patch5, Larian had merged the Patch# fixes back into the main game files.

I think the issue is when you run the game exe - it gets confused because now it is looking at 2 sources for the same file and errors out. Deleting the extra *pak files is the solution. I did not know it was also causing the audio issues.

Also, if you have updated to Patch5 hotfix2 / Hotfix13#. There SHOULD be one patch file in the Data folder.. you should put Patch5_Hotfix2.pak (1.70GB) back.

edit: I do wonder, if someone installs the most up to date version of the game, patch5-hotfix2 (so without any patching). Does the Data folder contain the Patch5_Hotfix2.pak file? or is it merged into the game files?

yes the current build has Patch5_Hotfix2 which is because Larian has zero fucking clue what they are doing

last patch [4] they made a big stink about not having patch paks anymore because it is a mess to code test... that lastest one patch
