The game details on GOG note that; "NOTE Cross-platform multiplayer with Steam is supported."

I find this comment ambiguous, so I am asking if anyone can clarify;

A. This means that the GOG version can cross-play with Steam players.
B. You must buy the Steam version to have cross-play compatibility. You cannot cross-play with Steam players using the GOG version.
C. Cross-platform multiplayer with non-PC platforms is only possible on the Steam version.
D. The GOG version can only cross-play with Steam.

Thank you.

I can't confirm anything, and haven't seen answers to your questions... but I would expect that if it's cross-platform compatible at all, it shouldn't require you to buy a copy on Steam. I took this to mean GOG players can play with Steam players.

Most likely, the game uses Larian servers to do it's cross-platform synchronization, which would pretty effectively decouple the gaming platform from the multiplayer coordination.

That said, I would not be surprised in the least if cross-platform multiplayer (or possibly all multiplayer) requires a Larian account... especially if my theory about using Larian servers is correct. Some people on these forums may consider the need for such an account to be DRM, and I'm certain that if this is true we'll hear about it in the forums and see it in the 1-star reviews. If you're one of those people, you may choose to hold off buying the game until you get an answer, or until it's released so if it doesn't meet your needs you can refund it.

It's definitely A for sure at least, GOG and Steam crossplay works great.

I don't know if they announced cross play with consoles, and how that'd look on the different pc platforms, I think Divinity OS 2 had cross save with consoles if you had the steam version, but not GOG so hopefully they improve their system for BG3.
Gog +Larian account wil allow multiplayer against Steam + Larian account

at this point PS5 doesn't work and Xbox will be last but its hoped those two will some day be able to join multiplayer

Gforce players use the Steam system so if you buy the game on Steam & have a Gforce account \ internet then you can play it there which leaves most Australians / NZ people out but its good for US customers
Thanks all for your replies. :)
How does is work? I see only my gog friends when I want to invite someone, not my steam friends
You have show friends only ticked would be my first guess

In any event there is a copy this code and send it to others to join system... Every one needs the same version / mods to join the same game
My friends have it on steam, I have it on GoG, can't play with them, there's a different 'gustav' version mismatch

Tried everything so far, they can join eachother no problem, if i try to join them it says i connect and disconnect immidiately

Using direct connect is also the only way obviously

It normally works. I think there was an update that wasn't pushed to GOG yet.

Hi. So, my brother works at Larian and I have concrete answers to your questions. I'll try to answer as many questions as possible:

- Q: How does cross-save work?
- A: You must link your Larian account to the platform you are playing on (Steam, GOG or otherwise) and this will let you to save your progress on the cloud. This allows you to continue your game on any platform (PC, XBOX or PS5) at any point, but your Larian account must be linked.

- Q: What happens if I delete my save on one platform? Can I retrieve it somewhere else?
- A: No. If you delete your save, even if you have cross-save, you won't be able to retrieve it since it updates almost instantly. It's gone for good. However, you can back your saves up on a separate folder in case you don't want to lose your save. This also works for console users as they can retrieve their saves from their Larian account.

- Q: How does is work? I see only my gog friends when I want to invite someone, not my steam friends.
- A: Cross-play only works on PC platforms at the moment and it requires a lobby code for others to join your game. (Lobby code is provided when playing online) So... yes. You can play with Steam users while on GOG without the need of a Steam account.

- Q: Are mods supported?
- A: Not right now, but they will be in the future. At the moment, mods do more damage than good. They usually break the game in many ways and each update is a 50/50 chance that your mods will break your save. Player Support is doing everything they can to try fix all issues, but mods make it difficult to identify errors produced by the Larian dev team and errors caused by the use of mods.

- Q: Who's the best romanceable girl?
- A: Karlach in first place, Shadowheart in second place.

- Q: Will there be cross-play among platforms in the future?
- A: Yes. Larian is working on cross-platform cross-play. However, you'll need to purchase a copy of the game on each platform if you want to play there. (Read the next question)

- Q: Can I play BG3 on PC if I have the game on my XBOX account?
- A: No. You need to purchase the game on a platform to play there. For example, you can't play on PS5 if you link your account from your XBOX or PC if you haven't purchased it there. However, all deluxe stuff will transfer between platforms if you use the cross-save feature. This means that if you want to play on multiple platforms, you can purchase the Deluxe verison only on one and the regular version on the others. You don't need the Deluxe version in all platforms.

If you have any further questions, you can ask me if you want, but I encourage that you contact Player Support as they are awesome, friendly and, most important, VERY helpful.
