I have played the early access and it was quite a refressing game. Many things missing btw (more characters, abilties, sounds, items, options, etc.),-i know, it is under development- but i liked mostly the reactions and converations between the characters. The fight system was a little bit hard for me at the beginning but in the end it was completly enjoyable. The maps are huge many quests within, the view was astonishing. Good choice that we can speak with animals and with the dead. I could write hours about this game. One thing is sure, it is for my taste.
However, i had an obervation.

(spoiler alert)

- When i knocked down Auntie Ethel - just with the priestess of Shar, Shadowhearth - (she has given the final strike) and the witch bargained for her life, a special response (dialoge) came up, like "I will kill myself and give your soul to Shar" or something like that :) Of course i couldn't kill her after the scene... but next time my main character gave the fatal blow, so she died instantly :/ (no bargining)

So, my observation is this: All Npc's at the party should be given the opportunity to express what they want about such an event, don’t just have a chance at whoever is talking or delivering the decisive blow. They are all there, seeing and hearing things. Let the player decide what answer will be the best or to whom it favors. (in the example, Shadowheart)

I hope it will be a long and complex game arm-in-arm with a fascinating story.
Keep up the good work Larian Studios! :)

Br,
Lanro
there are lots of 'what if' options so playing as a Elf opens up talks you don't see as a Dwarf ... having now played a dozen games as every race / class its great to see these small changes
DOS2 combat was hard and confusing, wish they add good Tutorial. Ive nothing againts steep-learning-curve games, but it surely cost in sales.

a bit off topic but dos2 was designed as a muliplayer combat game more than a rpg and yes the lack of testing \ tutorials hurts sales and holds it back from being the great game it could have been

this is one reason Larian is taking their time to get bg3 right... keeping Wizards happy is worth the extra time because while they are known to be picky they also have very deep pockets

I hope they considering adding good Tutorial. With right kind of Tutorial they could even make the game feel more complex etc. What I would imagine Larian fans want.

What do you think is wrong with the tutorial that they have?

I said it earlier DOS2 is hard and confusing. I dont know if BG3 if any different.

I think its no brainer, YouTube is full of all kind of Guides etc. It isnt players job to teach how to play the game. Game devs should design games what are easy to learn, so people can have fun.

Ah sorry. I thought you were talking about BG3.
there are no tutorial [as such] in BG3 no... the starting ship is designed to ease you in and you do get some text popups but they are pretty basic and the ui has holes
for example its pretty easy to remove items fro your ui with double clicks (a fact that is not in any tooltip) you then get people coming onto the forums asking how the fuck they get their 'dip weapon' icon back

to get dip icon back you have to open the character screen, swap to the magic book i.e, where spells are keep, dip weapon is a bonus action and all actions are treated as spells so you drag it out of that screen back onto your ui... also not included in any tool tips

this is a D&D game so you are expected to know how stats works i.e, that only even stat points [12, 14 etc, not 11 or 13] and you are also assumed to know the basic difference between a Cleric or a Wizard... the game will touch on this stuff a little but yes go look it up on youtube is what's expected

unlike Dos2 you can run around ignoring the main story quest in order to go see whats over that side of the map so the game doesn't hold your hand much after you hit the beach but it also doesn't punish you for wandering off topic a bit... interestingly people you take your time going to see may be dead by the time to arrive because you didn't show up in the nic'Of'time but you just find their dead body and think "i wonder what happened here?"

That's what I call a tutorial. Did you have trouble picking up the game after the tutorial?

Dos2 = yes

i personally find BG3 a good mix of complex but rewarding and picked it up right away, however that doesn't imply everyone else will

i played D&D all my life and understand the dos engine at a code level

I don't remember my DOS2 experience very well because I didn't play it much. Is that the one with the ship hold business? I don't recall if I liked or hated it.

BG3 tut seems very much in line with what I've gotten with the various other RPGs like the KOTORs, VTMB, the DeusExs, etc. (even the various MMORPGs, for that matter) Tutorials don't and can't cover everything you might need to know to play a game. They are just to get you started. Frankly I would be bored with a tutorial that showed me everything.
yes Dos2 is the one that starts in a ship and didn't play a lot is very much the normal feedback

Bg3 is based on D&D rules which is why it feels like KOTOR or other older Rpg... love it or hate it D&D is very much the standard

now to be clear, I'm not saying the lack of tutorial vs popup up info boxes is a bad thing... I'm saying the lack of correct info in those popups is a bad thing that Lariantends to ignore

for example; in the last patch Larian decided to change the way your party behaves in their opening 'tutorial' aboard the ship.
before the patch you could change their weapons \ spells but after the patch they locked the party so you can only change your own character... that's fine and your guess is as good as mine as to why they did this but my point is they didn't tell anyone or update the popups

so the popup says to press C in order to adjust character - inventory - spells but when you press it nothing happens... you have to get off the ship before you can change anything but the game doesn't tell you that

another example;
when you gain enough points to level up 'in my case still on the opening ship' you get a popup telling you to press this to level up your character but if you are still in combat [again still on the ship] nothing happens because you are in combat so the popup gives you incorrect info and the game doesn't then add another popup saying 'no wait for combat to be over' it just does nothing

these are bad design on the part of the dev team, the first one is minor because its in beta testing and some changes are expected but the 2nd one is a major design issue because Larian have now locked that into the ui with dozens of incorrect popups that can upset new players trying to learn the rules

They could do optional Tutorial. Not to mentiont Good Tutorial could be used to make even more complex game. Show the ropes, but theres alot more strings to pull, etc.

I cant fully understand the anti-tutorial attitude. Sure learning is fun, but in the end, it should be video game too. They could think it like "Game shows how to put the condom on, but not the tricsk what you can do with it.". DOS2 showed you how to take your pants off but thats where it ended.

a lot of gamers don't like tutorials because of bad dev design forgetting to add a "skip" option... just look at Mass Effect 2 for example
