The default black hair is actually fairly light...but! There is a way to get it darker. That is through greying. I know that sounds counter-intuitive, but it works. Go to greying, select black, and then go down to greying intensity and move the slider all the way to the right.
You might be thinking I got it backwards, but I'm certain I don't. Moving the slider to the right for any other stat (like freckles, makeup, etc.) increases the value.
