I have a Larian account and use the launcher but I don't to have any cloud saves. Is this normal? Thanks.
yes its normal
cloud saves is a Steam only option
on Gog you have the cross save option which sends a copy of your game saves to the Larian server... back around the playstation patch Larian turned their server backend off and have not yet turned it back on
OK. Thanks.

My first time posting anything but hope it helps.

If you have a Larian account you can activate a cross save on the options menu, which functions like a cloud save. Go to options, gameplay, save options, and you'll find cross save there. If you don't find your save when opening it on another device just check the same thing and it'll sync your saves.

correct except its currently turned off at the Larian end so doesn't work
Has GOG ever said why they don't allow cloud saves for BG3? Just doesn't make a lot of sense to me given all the other similar games that they offer the option for. For example DOS2.

Had I know GOG didn't offer cloud saves I might have bought the Steam version instead.
I suspect it is because the save games folder gets too big for them to handle. GoG prefer to keep cloud saves less than 200MB per game. My BG3 save game folder is about 340MB.

The cross-saves thing works fine if you value saving to the cloud.

GOG cloud saves are fairly redundant when Larian account cross save exists and I expect Larian have not turned on GOG cloud saves to avoid their support staff being inundated with questions from people who would not understand the difference if both were available.

I don't understand the complaints in this thread that say cross saves don't work. I've been playing on both a Steam Deck and desktop PC using Larian cross saves for about a year and apart from the occasional sync failure, which is almost always solved by relaunching the game, I've not had any issue with the feature. Perhaps they're not using the Larian Launcher? AFAIK, cross saves only work when BG3 is launched via Launcher app.
bg3 save files are too big for the gog sever which is capped... yes Gog could make a special case but isn't going to because Larian has control of bg3 support so asking them to 'fix' issues caused by a server that isn't under their own control would just be dum

p.s, Steam deck isn't a Gog thing but a Steam server thing... clue is in the name but yes you could hack it if you are willing to go back and rehack it again every single time Galaxy updates

I own the GOG version, so the Steam servers aren't involved at all. A Steam deck is just a portable Linux PC, there are multiple ways to install and run GOG games on it, no "hacking" required. You can directly install and run GOG Galaxy, which is made very simple with the NonSteamLaunchers script, or use a third party launcher like Heroic, amongst other options.

For Larian cross saves to work, the only requirement is that the game is launched via LariLauncher.exe - GOG Galaxy is not necessary, as the only things it provides for Baldurs Gate 3 are updates and achievement tracking.
