Is it just me, or does this game have some of the worst controls ever? I keep thinking 'OK, I'm pressing the back key and Marty is going left, I'm sure that makes perfect sense in some parallel time stream, but not this one'.

The controls are awkward. Also, when the scene changes while walking, the new direction doesn't register so you can sometimes be pressing right and have the character continue walking left. Then there are the many parts were the character will be walking about 45 degrees off the directional key direction. Doesn't make the game unplayable or have any significant impact on gameplay however so this should not deter anybody from buying the game.
Takes a little getting used to but I don't find them particular challenging or annoying. Also I use the mouse for movement.

Sitting in front of a PC holding both mouse keys depressed and moving the mouse in one direction after seeing where he runs now, just that when the camera angle is changing, it now suddenly means you have to move in a different direction to try to keep the character running in a straight line is... well... heavy

yep, the control is not great, maybe because the developers didn't see any reason to improve it as he game is not affected (and is a cinematic game after all). As invenio said, don't affect the experience.
