Any tips on building strategies?

I noticed that if I build lots of things side by side, they get electricity, but population complains about the commute - they prefer to walk in tunnels rather than through other buildings. So, next campaign I started building in blocks like a city, but using tunnels instead of streets.

I had gas leak into the area - covered it with a thermal generator - still bad air quality for quite a while. Any strategies for air quality? Always a vent with a filter? every (how) far? If you get bad air in, do you add a ton of filters and then when air is back to normal recycle those buildings?

Strategies for water? just keep building in the most water rich areas?

Lots of turrets for the ice storms?

i got hit by the slime or whatever infects buildings... it spreads fast and destroys building and tunnels in whole. I have to build lots of extra scrubber stations - how many of those should you have? double the coverage with all full upgrades?

I found a few strategy tips online - anyone have any favorite strategy resources?
