Haven't purchased the game yet but from the screenshots and artwork, I'm getting MAJOR S.T.A.L.K.E.R. vibes from this game.

Most of the reviews however say it's closer to F1/F2.

Can anyone who owns the game chime in on this? S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is my favorite series and this looks great!

Gameplay and graphics are definitely F1/F2 style (although much better due to modern tech, obviously) - however it does take place in the old USSR (WWIII in this game started in 1986, <20 years before the game is set).

On top of that, STALKER games are also referenced (e.g. people who scavenge ruins in the post-apoc world are known as "stalkers", and they set up these small bases/communities in dangerous zones to support scavenging). And of course you spend a lot of time scavenging stuff from pre-war sites (but that's practically any post-apoc game).

I'd say that from Fallout 1,2 ATOM took mostly visual stile like inventory, dialog system, isometry turn-based gameplay, system SPECIAL.
But for me the atmosphere it is more like STALKER than Fallout with all Soviet style architecture and villages. When you got to secret bunkers it resemble me the feelings when I entered Agroprom or Laboratory X10. Soviet STALKER like weapons like SVD and Vintorez! There is Dead city global map where you can feel like in Pripyat.
So If like STALKER and Fallout 1,2 series that game is ideal for you.
Even fact that playing melee build the fights become very difficult to pass the game with combat oriented char looks reasonable if you look at the game from STALKER point of view, when guy with a AK47 always has better chances to win. So if you have a knife in your arm than it's better hide than fight.
So if you still thinking of buying game do it! It is an amazing game!
Game community is great and the developers react quickly on reported bags.

The first thing i think about here is Soldiers of Anarchy. (2002)
Although that is more of a tactical game than a Roleplaying Game.
And sadly, not available anywhere anymore it seems.
There's also a stalker called Wolf in both games.

Could be a coincidence or maybe a nod to the earlier game.

Based on the amount of references in this game, it's probably the latter. ;)
