I've got the famed problem of Atlantis 2 crashing upon launch when I run it under Win7 x64. I know this is a known problem for older copies of the game, wouldn't have expected it to happen with the GOG version.

I've tried various compatibility settings, including switching off desktop effects, running under 640x480 and 256 colours, no joy.

Anyone else having this problem/found a solution to this?

I'm having the same problem under XPsp3 x32 - it tries to launch but just quits.
This also happening to me in Windows 7 64 bit. I don't know what is causing it.

When you guys downloaded the installer, did you use the GOG downloader? If you did, were there "chunk" files left over with the actual install? There were a bunch for me but since they usually disappear after the download finishes I didn't bother keeping them, and installed the game. The installer's file size was what it was supposed to be and it installed fine but I guess it could have had an effect.

Nah, I used the browser download, but I tried it later with the downloader with no difference.
I'm having the same problem with it starting up and going to a black screen. Then it stops responding. I'm running it on Vista 32 bit. I have it installed under c:\Games\Beyond Atlantis and I've tried all of the different compatibility settings. Nothing changes.
Same problem here, Vista 64. No compatibility-mode helps. Very frustrating.
Have the same problem with Atlantis 3 on Win7x64 (i7-2630m, GT525M). Tried using both gpu: embeded Intel HD and GeForce.

I have the problem, too, with Atlantis 2 and 3.
System is Win 7x64 Pro.

edit: After HOURS of experimenting and searching the net (without success) I just got all games working on my system. I just had to close my email client (hunted it down step by step). I am using "emClient" for this purpose....so maybe some of you with similar problems just have to shut down some programs running in the background to solve it.

I had the black screen problem on first launch. I went to program manager and turned off everything else that was running and it worked.

I solved some compatibility problem on win7 x64 after deactivate the "HID compliant devices" in the Device Manager, in fact the problem is the usb keyboard, if i plug an ps2 keyboard the game run fine. This tips work on another games (Commando 2, F.E.A.R...)

I have found a probable solution to the "black screen" issue. Open up the properties for the games shortcut (or create a new one and do the same thing) and change the Compatibility from "Windows 98 / Windows Me" to "Windows XP (Service Pack 3)". Restart the game.

Also, if you're experiencing mouse-lag, try turning off the Enhance Pointer Precision feature in your Mouse options in the Control Panel and restart the game. Image: http://i.imgur.com/8Ev6L.png

Hope this was helpful.

It seems everyone has a different solution to the same problem. Here's what helped with my Atlantis 3 crash on startup problem (Windows 7):

First, whenever i install an old game and it doesn't work at first, i always put it on the data execution prevention exception list.
I set the compability for the game.exe to Windows XP (SP3)
I left the Atlantis3.exe as it is (seriously, tampering with its compability in any way would make it stop working)
And even THEN it would only start 1 out of 3 times, but i can live with that.

Here's some funny stuff i'm having with Beyond Atlantis (Atlantis 2):
For a time, Atlantis2.exe would start "The Longest Journey" instead, which i also happened to have installed (and yes, in a different location in case you're asking)
I'm not kidding, when i had "The Longest Journey" deinstalled, "Atlantis 2" would work correctly again. Well almost, none of the movies would play. When i reinstall the game, movies work for exactly one game session. Start it a second time, no movies again, so i basically have to reinstall the game whenever i want to play.

The Cryo games have some of the most toe-curling bugs i know, but i'm happy to say i can make them work if i try really hard.
The only way I have managed to get it to work is using Virtual PC and my old Win XP 32 bit disc.
This is for Virtual PC 2007:

1. After installing XP install the add-ons
2. With add-ons installed you can drag the installer into XP
3. The only extra step you may need to do is then go to control panel and uninstall the add-ons, I had the mouse acting funny in-game, but if VPC can capture the mouse instead of letting move between both operating systems seems to fix that issue.

I have not tried it with the newer virtual pc.

Unorthodox, but it worked for me.
I did nto get my copy through GOG, but I got my copy of Atlantis III working by turning off all Compatibility settings, Game.exe had 98/millenium on by default.
