Maybe I've just got the gamma settings up too high, but did anyone else besides me feel that Arx Fatalis was generally too well-lit? I don't ever remember being in any environment that was pitch-black. Sure, small details could be hidden in shadow, but even when there weren't any lit torches in the area, the caves of Arx seemed bright enough to see in, at least for a short radius (which is more than enough most of the time when you're in looping tunnels.
Also, where is everyone getting wood for torches with? And where are we getting all our produce?
Hi Prator, strange you should mention it..
On my 24inch LCD-monitor it looks really dark. In fact, when I ventured down to spider mines (on the goblins kingdom level), I had to continuosly draw magic runes in the air just to see something (i ran out of torches by that time). Imagine the thrill :-)

Definitely mess around with your settings to get the game really *pitch* black in areas that you are sure there is absolutely no way of any light actually, logically getting in. The game is much more fun when you do have to worry about having enough torches. There are some areas where things get a little too dark to see what you're doing. That's where the torches shine... (bad pun). :)
