Gamepad axes and buttons can't be mapped in the game. JoyToKey works with the game.
PC cannot fully mimic Xbox controls because Xbox version has different interface.
For those of you who prefer gamepad to keyboard and mouse and always try to achieve the most authentic experience possible, this might come in handy.

Have you tested that?! The XBox version was a port from the original Windows version, not a simultaneous development. I'll be awfully surprised if they ever added gamepad support into the the PC version.

No. I've just tried some basic stuff and it looks like the game might be fun to play using a gamepad but the controls can't be exactly the same as in the Xbox version. I'll stick to mouse in Arx Fatalis (at least for my first walkthrough) because that's the way it was meant to be played. I put the info here just for the players who'd like to experiment with it - share your experiences if you do, please. (I'd like to see a thread like this about every PC game that has a console version - it would help me very much at times.)

Oh, were you just thinking of people manually configuring their gamepad controls to match what Arkane came up with for the XBox? That makes a bit more sense (even if personally I can't think of a more horrid way to control a first-person game :)
IIRC, the magic gestures were supposed to be different on the XBox version for control purposes, so I think even if you can play with a gamepad, you might run into difficulties when it comes to magic.

Yea I was going to say magic might be extremely tough on a gamepad... interesting if someone could pull it off
