Hey everyone, I wrote a Guide for installing DayZ. I have the GOG version so this is specially tailored to this crowd, but also applies to other Non-Steam versions of the game:

Great guide Hawk, very much appreciated.

renthicya, may be start a new thread or post here with more information on your issue. Let us know what the error messages say when you try to run OA, and let us know how you are launching the game (via a shortcut, the .exe file, or a launcher program).

I suspect I know the issue you are experiencing as I may have come across it as well. For your information, the beta patch only takes about a second to install (I didn't think it had done anything at first either).

Also let us know what issue is occurring when you try to run DayZ through the DayZ Commander.

A huge thank you for taking your time to writing a very helpful guide!! +++ :) It will surely be of great help to many people!

I've not yet bought Arma II from GOG (stupid me didn't think of looking for it here.. doh!), so I don't know which version the GOG release patched to.

The reason I'm mentioning it is that it seems like that only installing the "beta patch" onto version 1.59 isn't optimal. While it works, some things are missing, 2 advanced video options for example. (AToC and PPAA)

So... if the GOG version isn't 1.62, I'd recommend you test the "1.59 -> official 1.60 patch -> official 1.62 patch -> beta patch" approach. If it is... well, yet another reason I'll buy the GOG release too.. :D
Hey HopeAtLast, I purchased ARMA II: CO from GOG last night. Just ran it now and it is v1.62.95248

Oh! Thanks for the info! Great news then.. as expected when it comes to GOG.. :D I've recently purchased Arma II from GOG too, both for me and as a gift. :P (haven't installed it yet).

Good to know then that with GOG:s version one will be up and running in no time (saves you from at least 3 additional installation steps... lol), so it's the one I'll be recommending for sure!

PS. If it helps anyone: Applying the latest "beta patch" should be the only step to take after installation as I see it. ("beta patch" = truly confusing name of the post-retail patch that Bohemia Interactive provides. Despite the age of the title they frequently provide newer versions of the patch with even more fixes and improvements. Highly recommended, and called "beta" as there are no promises of them being stable or supported etc. as I understand it.)
Guys help! Dayz doesn't work :( i followed the guide but dayz still doesn't work :(
Followed your instructions, but being caught up on the Beta Patch. Try and launch DayZ and I get an error message saying the Combined Operations file won't run .

Any suggestions, or did I miss a step?

I don't know if you missed a step, you might have to re-install the game.

But for me, I used DayZ Commander. Used it to Patch my Arma2 game and to download and install the DayZ mod. Was very easy and simple.

All sorted, think I missed the "remove the forward slash" part of the instructions, runs fine now.
I have to agree with using DayZ Commander, made it TRIVIALLY easy!

The nice thing about DayZ, you can easily update DayZ as a new patch comes out (like it did just a few days ago), but you can also revert to the older patch to play on the servers that haven't updated yet.
I tried the tutorial posted by Hawk but I couldn't get DayZ to work, even after a fresh install of Arma II: CO. I think part of the problem was that I have a 32-bit version of Win7 and had problems making the registry edit in the tutorial (that and my lack of computing skills :-) ). However, I tried the Play withSIX utility and this worked fine without any need to edit the registry or make any adjusts to the original install whatsoever. I thought I'd just post this up in case anyone else has the same problems I did.
Someone may want to reupload the guide, because all I get is the site saying the page can't be found
Hey, the link doesn't work anymore unfortunately. Could anyone please re-upload it because there is nothing ''sticky'' to be found here at the moment. :(
