At this point I'm really not sure if the problem is the buggy nature of the game, or something I'm just missing.

I can't get through the intro portion of Miskatonic University. Fought my way through to the lecture hall and got some quest item, but don't see another way to go. The door to Tilenghast's office stays locked with the students asking "are they gone?" but never letting me in. Other ways out of the hall tell me I have no reason to go that way, and I've searched every spot available despite losing sanity for the most ridiculous reasons a la "Lovecraft" games. (Gah! This shade of purple makes you uneasy!)
Also, saving at this point and reloading apparently starts the whole area over, so that's annoying too.
