I'm curious about something.
When I disband a follower, like say Virgil from my tech gunslinger (which incidently seems to be the most popular kinda character), where do those NPCs end up? Is it impossible to re-hire them? Are they gone forever?
*spoilers*
Myself, I picked up Sogg for tanking and then switched out Virgil for Jayne. Virgil *said* to me when I dropped him that he was gonna stay right there and... do some worshipping or something, but later he was gone. Then I switched Sogg for Magnus, and he went off to find a tavern. Where do they end up if I wanna look 'em up again?

Sogg ends up back at the same tavern you found him in. Don't know about the others yet.
Maybe Virgil heads over to the church in Tarant.
I *just* visited the Panarii temple in Tarant, and no, Virgil ain't there. Most likely somewhere associated with finding him... like the shrine up in them mountains.
It would be great if Virgil could be 're-hired'. Originally, I wanted to make a tech based melee character. But I also wanted to keep Virgil with me for storyline purposes. Eventually, I ended up just doing my best to keep my melee character balanced between tech and magic so Virgil wouldn't become useless. It would be cool if a tech guy could ditch Virgil early on for a more appropriate comrade, and then pick him up again later in the game for storyline reasons.
I think, that he is camping on the crashsite again. Well, 95%.
Maybe there is a Tavern of Abandoned Characters that all dismissed NPC's go to live out the rest of their lives...
I just now realized the thread title is a quote from a certain Bonnie Tyler's song, great one at that.

OT:
Heh yeah, that song has been running through my head since I started reading this.

Hey, actually I found Virgil again! If you get to Shrouded Hills and the bridge leading outta there, then follow the shore northwards on the town-side of the river, you'll find Virgil there.
And yes, the title was a bit of poetic liscence I took :)
My experience with people who join the party and then are asked to leave is that they stand exactly where you left them forever. Maybe that's just me, though.
On that note, don't ever abandon a party member you plan on coming back for out in the wilderness. You'll never see them again.
