Ok, so i am starting my first game and i am making a spell caster. My first spells i am focusing on are the know alignment, and the charm. As a debutante i thought, let's lean on that first and help my talking/like abilities and know who's side i wan't to take and such. I figure i'll get some stronger spells, and lean on my leader ship to round out my skills. Seems to be working so far.

anyways, My charm and know alignment spells, don't always work. It seems like there could be a limited amount of times they work during the day? Or is it if they pass a check you have to wait a certain amount of time for them to work?

I am just curious about the spell mechanic on these spells, at times i can charm everyone, and others i can't charm a single thing. I just wanna know what's up.
Besides the possibility of Charm failing to work on characters with high technological aptitude, or the target successfully saving against the spell... I think what happens is that you're trying to cast spells over your maintenance limit.

The number of spells you can maintain at once equals to your Intelligence score divided by 4, rounded down; you can see the available spell slots along with the active spells in them at the top of the screen. This refers specifically to spells that have a prolonged effect that requires maintenance, not single-use ones like Unlocking Cantrip and such; both spells you've mentioned have to be maintained. Each copy of a spell takes up a slot.

If you try to cast a spell when all of your slots are already filled up, it'll consume the initial Fatigue cost as usual, but will fail to take effect. So you have to free a slot for it by cancelling one of the active spells (just click on its icon), or raise your Intelligence so you get more slots. Beware that maintaining 4-5 spells at once is not as cool as it sounds since each of them drains Fatigue, and unless you have superhuman Constitution, this'll just make you faint after some time. (Constitution controls the Heal Rate, or how fast Fatigue is recovered.)

Also keep in mind that maintained spells are automatically cancelled if you fall unconscious due to fatigue drain, as well as when you rest or use the world map to move around.
