Do any of you know how to do this?

Once day I was playing Arcanum years ago and dropped a soda can or something on my keyboard. Then I got a message like "Your character has been transferred to multiplayer" and I suddenly could take my level 17 sword/mage elf into multiplayer games. I have not been able to recreate this and have never found the specific key combination that my soda can found. Am I missing something simple?

Have you tried dropping a can of coke on the keyboard?

Press X key while in the character editor menu. (This is disabled in the latest High Resolution Patch though, among other multiplayer specific features).
