Hi everyone guys, this like the 6th time I'm playing Arcanum. I was never able to end it (I was always stuck in the pelojian part). Anyway, today I've arrived in Tarant and did all the quests, after having followed the guide on gamesbanshee (there were two I never did).
I didn't go in the boil because it was too hard for my character.

Anyway, I arrived in the black mountain: I realized that my character gets one shotted by the golems there (level 25).

But something really bothers me: my character is LEVEL 11! Even after doing all the quests listed on Tarant and even If with me there is only VIRGIL!

I'm starting to think that something messed up the xp I should be having.

What is it, according to you?

I remember to have never took the train for Ashbury- Denerim before completing the Black Marsh, so there is definitely something that I'm missing or that ruined in my actual game.

The only thing I've installed is the fan patch.

Thank you for help

I uninstalled the game. It was not worth it being beaten by almost every monster which is ultra high level
The BMC mines are one of the most difficult places in the game at the time they are encountered. There's a disorienting difficulty jump that happens there, so waiting until you've leveled up to 20+ is fairly common. Those ore golems are probably among the toughest enemies in the game.
Well if you decide to give Arcanum another chance, you probably want to level a bunch more before doing the mines. If all you've done is Shrouded Hills and Tarant, you should probably also check out Dernholm and Blackroot before you go to the mines. I think you can pick up a quest in Shrouded Hills that will send you to Dernholm, and from there you'll find your way to Black Root. Do a bunch of sidequests there and you should gain several levels.

Even then, the mines are probably the most annoying place in the game. But if you can get through them the game gets a lot better. Don't be afraid to retreat back to Tarant to repair things at the shop. Also, when fighting ore golems, use tougher melee weapons like axes or your weapons will get damaged when you fight.
How are you building your character? What background, and where are you putting your points?

Are you taking advantage of all the side quests? Besides the Dernholm-Black Root combo Waltorious mentioned, there are plenty of opportunities throughout Tarant. Talk to people, especially those who appear to just be hanging out in an unusual spot (by themselves, or in the middle of the road).

You can also go into the wilderness to fight random creatures. There's no penalty for this; the game isn't timed.

Follower opportunities abound. One of the best followers is "free": as soon as you get to Ashbury, find and rescue the dog that's being kicked to death, and he'll be your friend for life. (This quest is timed; you have one in-game hour from the moment you first set foot in town, which equals about ten minutes of real time.)

Basically, the more you interact, the more you'll discover. Try it again, and when you get stuck feel free to ask us here.

Thanks a lot to everyone whose answered me. I re-began Arcanum today and noticed I had messed up the creation of my character. Now things are going flawlessly and I'm level 18 inside the mines :D.

Looking forward to add more party members (I got only Virgil)

I've got max melee, max dodge, 2 point in persuasion

Will add 4 points to intelligence(to achieve 12 intelligence) to get the dwarf king asap :D
