Well this is a bit complicated question.. I`ve taken my whole Arcanum folder and carried to another pc, without installing it.

Then i ran the game, started a new game, went a while with saving and stuff. Then I started another game. Saved that new game in a totally different slot.

Then I tried to load my first game, but it kept loading my second game. Any of the savegame slots i loaded, it would always load my last save of my second game. So in anger i deleted my second games savegame (there was only one slot of it). But then i couldnt load my first game either!

All the slots that were saved after i carried my arcanum folder to the new pc says `empty`. I tried to open them up with notebook and all these slots are empty, only says the name of the savegame and no other data. They dont seem to be corrupted, theyre just gone somehow. When i load one of them it either sends me back to the game menu or loads up the starters merchant map of the beginning of the game.

I thought maybe it has something to do with vistas read-only security measures that prevented the game from creating good savegame files, but then how did it create the .gsi files and then got them all empty except for the names of the savegames and the CurrentGame slot which i suspect i have been using all the time?

If anyone has any idea how to resolve this, please help. I even tried restoring the system to a previous state. Everything went back in time except my arcanum folder (magic huh?). Much appriciated..

Hi,
Try saving all the files you can from the modules\arcanum\save folder (something named like that) .... or just copy the whole Arcanum folder elsewhere.

After that, reinstall Arcanum thru its installer and all mods and patches you have.

Then, plant the savegame folder back to where its supposed to be, make the correct folders if you have to.

Let us know if that works.

Also make sure you install and run Arcanum as administrator. Alternatively, try installing somehwere OTHER than Program Files (c:\games, for example). Vista has extra protections on the Program Files folder that can cause it to redirect the savegames, which might be why you're having trouble finding them.
sorry guys. that didnt work. i think i managed to corrupt my savegames beyond help. instead i just copied my old installation (patched, modded, made in xp) into the new new installation and installed the unofficial patch on top of it. ive never played with the unofficial patch before thinking it twinkled too much than necessary. but what the hell, it fixes so much. i started a new game with the new patch and the restored animations mod. rest in peace my old thief.

running the patch and the game exe as adminstrator helped a lot. thats the key i think. otherwise it just doesnt let any program change files that werent created here. funny actually thats my idea of security but these days people hack trough much more in non-technical ways like spoofing or scamming. ah well.
