Keep in mind that you can update a shop's stock by walking away until the shop is completely off your screen, then waiting 24 hours in-game, then returning to the shop. If you're having trouble finding the steam engine you can do that to speed the search along.

I didn't know about that and used to travel outside the town, return and then check all stores. Now it will be much faster, thank you very much.

And about the Small Steam Engines price.. 7000 gold? Whooa. Maybe someone knows if there is any chance to find and steal one or two? :)

SheBear: And in terms of spiders, use the normal ones; they are pretty good. The poison ones, are, in my opinion, not worth it. And the medical one which you can get from completing Maxim's quest isn't that useful either.
The medical arachnid is great if you're playing a tech character - unlimited free healing which never fails.

If it is a shop keeper that either has their store inventory on their person, or in an accessible chest somewhere you can steal it when you know it is in the store's inventory. But other than that I don't think there are any that are just lying around.

Valid point. I never really saw the use for them because I don't really like the arachnids in general (they are too slow mostly) and so didn't use it all that often (because I was able to heal myself well enough).

If you haven't gone to the Black Mountain Mines yet, you can usually make a ton of money there. Lots of loot, especially gems. In my first playthrough, I walked out with about 15,000 gold (and that's after paying for repairs to five party members' weapons and armor).
Hello again,
I have another problem (yeah, only problems with me :) ) Could you tell me is there a chance to find Elite Platemail? Or i must create one by myself?

I believe you have to craft it. I've never used any sort of plate on any of my characters though, as I prefer low strength guys.

EDIT: You are playing tech though, so you might wanna pick up some Machined Plate, which is almost as good (though heavier) and can be found.

Thanks for the answer!
So it looks like I must learn all blacksmith stuff to make Elite Platemail to construct Automaton. Huh, it's not as easy to make one, as i thought at character creation :)

I think there might be a small chance to find Elite Platemail in a shop. If not, you can steal it from someone. If you use a Fate Point to steal it, then you don't need any thieving skills either.

I'm playing technical thief right now, so my character is familiar with stealing. But who has this armor? Do you know it? Just tell me and I'm going to steal Elite Platemail!! Haaa!!! :)

I hear that the guard captain in Black Root has one. Haven't confirmed this myself, though.

Is that the same guy who's the Master Melee trainer?

No, the Master Melee trainer is in Dernholm. Don't know what kind of armor he has though... it's definitely some form of plate.

Thanks for the answer. I was really excited and travelled to Black Root to steal Elite Platemail. But! I couldn't find guard captain anywhere. I realized that i never saw him in this city. Could you give me a tip how to find him? I would be very grateful :)

I was just going by this earlier forum post:

http://www.gog.com/en/forum/arcanum_of_steamworks_and_magick_obscura/where_to_get_upper_level_built_items/post2

So I don't actually know myself. It's possible that the poster was actually referring to the guard captain in Dernholm and was confused. That guy definitely has some form of plate armor.

Anyone else know for sure which NPCs have elite plate?
