Hi all
I have the materials and Virgil has the schematics to make a Hand Crafted Flintlock and a Spike Trap. Is it possible to instruct him to make something for me?
Cheers
This question / problem has been solved by Zardusimage
Using the NPC to make stuff for you is done the same way as making something yourself you just use their character screen and inventory. They can only make schematics they have learnt though from leveling and are unable to learn any schematics you find so if its in his inventory and not learnt he can't make it for you
Wait, what?
Virgil, the magick one, has points in science? I don't think it's right.
Well, but if he really can do that, click on him, then say him: Can you do something for me (Not sure?)...
BTW - can you make some screens?

AFAIK Virgil doesn't have any tech crafting skills (he is, after all, a magic user and Magic + Tech don't play nice).
Magnus has some tech crafting skills I believe.
You can't teach followers new recipes, if they already know it then they will be able to create the item - but otherwise you need to learn the recipe yourself (which brings me to wonder... why are you wanting Virgil to use those recipes and make stuff rather than using them yourself?)
Doesn't look like there's been a definite answer to this yet, so I'll give it a try. Don't have the game on this computer, though, so I can't post screens. Sorry :-(

The way you make your (techie) followers make things is to put the items in their inventory and talk to them. For example, Magnus can make spike traps (and more as he levels up, but at least those). You'd put the large spring and the railroad spike into his inventory, talk to him, select "What kind of things can you make for me, Magnus?" and it pops up the schematics screen. Then you just select the spike trap and hit go. It's the same with Jayna and herbalism and whatever other techie chars you'd get.

As others have mentioned, if a character doesn't learn something from their leveling path, you can't teach it to them, though...

I hope that helps!

Yep - exactly as Zardus said: Make sure they have the items in inventory, then use the NPC dialog options to open the crafting screen.
Can you teach NPCs schematics?

The general consensus is no :-(
So you can't teach followers schematics, that's just what i wanted to know. But that leads me to another question- as a mage, should I still learn them for myself or just sell them? Because right now I'm predicting that if I do learn them and gather all the components the result will be something like "your magickal alignment caused the object to explode and kill you. RIP." :)

I think that you can craft tech items as a mage without problems.
You just can't use them, and of course you're unlikely to have enough expertise in technology to make the good stuff.
