No matter what resolution i pick, the menu is squished to the middle with black bars on the sides. I run at a native 1680x1050 and i tried 1440x900 too. I guess i can live without it, but i can't figure out why its doing this.

I went into the ATI control center and changed the Flat Panel settings to enable GPU scaling, but i can't get it to maintain the aspect ratio.

I have the unofficial patch installed and have tried installing the High res mod in administraotr and still no luck :(

If the menu has black bars on the sides, it sounds like you ARE maintaining aspect ratio. The original game ran in 4:3 resolutions, so if your native resolution is 1680x1050, then the game should run letterboxed with black bars on the sides (provided the game is running at its original resolution which I believe was 800x600).

However, if you are having issues with the ATI scaling setting, there's a weird fix for that... what you need to do is lower your screen resolution to anything that's smaller than your native resolution. Then go into the graphics card options and you should be able to select scaling with preserved aspect ratio. Then switch your resolution back to the native one. Not sure why this happens with ATI cards but it does.

As for the high res patch, I'm not sure why it's not working. Did you install the game itself as administrator? You might also want to change the install location to something other than program files, as that folder can cause problems for older games.
