I get into the factory, set the dynamite, it explodes and nothing happens. The engine still looks exactly like it had. Am i doing something wrong or is this a glitch in the game?

The dynamite is a throwing weapon, the chance to hit depends on your Throwing skill.

My suggestion : save game before throwing the dynamite. You may also notice that one dynamite might not be enough to destroy the engine. Press Alt to force attack and finish the engine (melee range if you're melee).

look at damage, dynamite may not destroy it. Just attack that engine(f2 I think)

dynamite damage is random. Get right next to the engine. save the game. Use the dynamite and drop it right on the ground next to it. Run away and wait. When it blows up, look at the health of the engline to see. Like it might have 200 health, and the health after the dynamite is 50/200. You can either use more, or physically attack it in melee to finish it off.

Personally i just reload and try again until it blows it up in one shot. Since the damage is random, you might have to reload a few times until it gets a high number and blows it up. Sometimes might take a few times, and some games i had to reload 10-20 times before it was a 1 shot kill.
