Trying to walk into the Boil, I get attacked on sight. I thought it was normal, however, I noticed Miranda Tears attacks me on sight as well. Is there some specific issue with my modifier that I am missing?

What version are you playing? Vanilla or patched? Which patch?

What race and background did you choose for your PC? Do they have any Beauty or Charisma penalties that are lowering NPC reactions (such as Troll Offspring or Beat With an Ugly Stick)?

What's your alignment? (It can be found on the Character screen; look for the dial on the left.) It's possible that you may be too good for that hive of scum and villainy.

Alternately, what level is your PC? They may not yet be high enough to intimidate anyone.

Last but not least, did you interact with anyone from the Boil previously? If you've helped (or possibly even just offered to help, by agreeing to a side quest) one clan, the other will attack you on sight.

As an update, I'm level 45 now and MT still attacks on sight. She is level 30. Not sure what the issue is.

When you hover the mouse over her, what's her reaction number? Below zero?

You did say you had the Pervert of Tarant penalty, which IIRC is a -25 to reaction. But that by itself shouldn't be enough for her to attack you on sight.

Are you sure you didn't accept any quests from Maug, or one of his cronies? Pollock's gang won't take that lying down.

I'm stumped. Maybe it's one of those random glitches, as can sometimes happen if you quicksave and reload too much.

Reaction was maybe about 25 or 17, low but not abysmally low. My alignment then was maybe about 20 or 30, it is now 100. But just for an example, the thugs at the entrance to the Boil avoid attacking me. Since I have not actually entered the Boil I haven't talked to Pollock's people.

Charm barely raises her disposition.

I am fine with joining whichever gang ultimately gives more XP though.

Arcanum has some funky coding tied to reaction modifiers. I was playing multiverse and ran into the same issue in Tarant where everyone in Madam Lil's suddenly went hostile. It turns out that there is at least one unexplained bug in the code. For instance reaction modifier is tied to your screen resolution. It was done that way so that when they came on the screen is when there was supposed to be a calculation. Now from what I understand it was done incorrectly and in some specific instances it can cause an instant hostile reaction.

Interesting. The Madame Lil's crowd has also changed to inexplicably borderline hostile. Reaction used to be 100 and is now 17. What resolution is recommended?

I was playing a 23 inch wide screen monitor on regular resolution. I wish I could help you but I was never able to fix the bug. I lost several games to that issue.
I ended up changing back to my old 19 inch monitor that is not wide screen and ditching the mod.
