I thought I'd fire up my ancient copy of Arcanum, and seeing as the last time I played was like the week after it was originally released, I'm pleasantly surprised that fans have made patches and mods for it over the years.

My understanding is you can essentially choose to use the Unofficial Patch, or Arcanum WIP (which includes most of the Unofficial Patch within it).

The problem is, the Arcanum WIP literally has no description of what it actually is. Just changelogs and updates and etc. I can't seem to find an actual write-up of what it does to the game, not even in its ReadMe or the forum thread dedicated to the mod at Terra-Arcanum, despite the thread being like a billion pages long.

So, has anyone played Arcanum with Arcanum WIP, rather than the Unofficial Patch? If you have, care to share your thoughts on what it actually added to the game?

Thanks. :)

I played with it, and I rather liked it.

It adds some additional areas (for instance it integrates Vormantown, one of the extra adventures in the base game into the gameworld), as well as other minor stuff (extra buildings, quests and backgrounds).

Overall, most of the additions were balanced and interesting, and add quite a bit of playtime. The main drawback of WIP is that you can't play it with other mods, including the widescreen mod.
Thanks. Maybe I'll try it on another playthrough. Having to play without the high resolution pack sounds nasty though.
