I have finally completed Arcanum! My dad bought the game back in 2001 and I was so intrigued I just had to finish it, but I kept getting stuck over and over again. Each time I got a little further along but this time I made it all the way to the final boss and gave him the peace he sought, muhahahaha!!!

The closing video was so satisfying, seeing what became of all the people I met along the way. I guess i did not find all the stories, but hey that can wait for my next play through.

First, congratulations!

Second, what do you mean by getting stuck? Issues figuring out what to do in the game, or real life getting in the way?

And last but not least, I'd recommend editing your post to remove the BBEG's name, as it is a major spoiler for anyone who just bought Arcanum here on GOG and hasn't yet played all the way through. (Just my two cents, a penny after taxes.)

A bit of both. I describe Arcanum as a flawed gem and one big flaw is the leveling system. With so few points to spend and so many things to spend it on I had a habit of making characters that were ultimately useless. I made a thief who was not stealthy enough to sneak past enemies he was too weak to fight and a blacksmith melee character who could not fight his way through the dungeon but could not persuade people to join him.

Keep in mind this was before Fan-Wiki's were a thing so I couldn't just look stuff up online, which I will admit I did this time, a lot.

I feel ya. One of my own pet peeves is that thanks to all the available side quests, one can easily max out before reaching the halfway point of the game.

In theory, any progression after that still benefits your followers, up until they hit level 50 as well. But since I usually go solo, that's strike two against the system. (And strike three, for the record, is how haphazardly each level increases by.)

Which is why I don't bother playing without the Level 127 hack anymore, along with my own custom .mes file that increments XP in a much more logical manner. (Yes, I'm channeling Sheldon Cooper here; don't judge me.)

Anyway, now that you've completed the game once, try something completely different. Play a character with 4 IN or less (half-ogres are perfect for this) and watch how differently everyone treats you. Or, be as despicable as possible and do every evil quest you can. Or, try being a smooth talker who only fights as a last resort; or even a pacifist who doesn't even carry a weapon, relying on charisma and their followers instead. Be a half-orc, and listen to everyone insult you to your face. Be a lowkey racist yourself, like a dwarf who only accepts dwarven followers. Be a mage who spams the Harm spell. Be a pure technologist, which is a lot harder than you'd think. The possibilities are endless, and the choice is up to you.
