I am receiving the error message "Unable to find an empty thing slot" while trying to enter the Underground City after leaving the underwater labyrinth/ship. The response options given are "Press C to continue, Press ESC to exit". Pressing C refreshes the error message, and ESC, well...you know what that one does. I remember this message from when I first played this game years ago. I also remember that I was able to work around it, but I no longer remember how. I tried restoring to an earlier save, but it didn't help. I assumed GOG fixed the problem before releasing it, but apparently not. Since I don't see where anybody else has posted with the problem, does someone out there have a solution for me? This was one of my favorite games, and I was SO excited to see it on GOG. Help, please!

I did a search and found this page,

http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=fr&u=http://www.abandonware-forums.org/showthread.php%3F35280-R%25E9solu-Anvil-Of-Dawn-Bug-quot-Unable-to-find-an-empty-thing-slot-quot&prev=/search%3Fq%3Danvil%2Bof%2Bdawn%2B%2Bthe%2Berror%2Bmessage%2B%2522Unable%2Bto%2Bfind%2Ban%2Bempty%2Bthing%2Bslot%2522%26biw%3D760%26bih%3D338

He says the inventory in a bag or chest is too full and to drop some stuff in the dark lantern, then see if the bug is gone. It wasn't in English so I used the change to English on the page.

Ah, thank you so much! I, too, tried a search but found nothing useful. Guess I gave up too soon. Never thought about looking in French. And I had tried dropping inventory in order to free up some slots, to no avail. But after reading the post, I moved some stuff around among the containers, and voila!
The error seems to appear if you carry too many items in your inventory and enter the Underground City or swap to UC's map.

If you encounter this bug, you get an error message where you can "Press C to continue" or "ESC to exit".
When pressing C, the program drops a random item from your inventory and checks again how many items you carry.
If you still carry too many items, the error appears again.

I could avoid the bug with the following:
Count how many times you have to press C until the error disappears.
Load the last save-game.
Drop or consume as many items as many times you had to press C.
