So, I'm in the part where the entire party splits up into 2 teams and PAL goes alone. Apparently I should switch between teams, but how? When entering the Basement section, the game briefly shows a hint that Shift + Tab should be pressed... but either button just switches between members of the same team, and pressing both at once also does noting else than just that.

Did I just miss something super simple or is my game broken?

So far tried
- reinstalling, on a different system even. no success
- reloading a savegame from before the teams are formed. same
- re-binding the keys (at least tab for switching characters). nope

Any console commands that might help?

I am supposed to just press Shift + Tab like the game tells me, right?

Bind action to another key and see if it works.

edit the anoxdata/CONFIGS/Default.cfg and add this to the universal controls section

bind kp_home "+shift;invoke 980:1"

The Home key on keypad now acts like shift-tab. Change kp_home to whatever key you would like to use.

It worked! Well, kp_home didn't but binding to ALT enables that function. Now I can finish the game, I had thought I must abandon it so close to the end.
