I'm in the very early stages of the game and on my first runthrough I'd gotten to the point where you can finally leave Anachronox after picking up PAL-18. I was going back and exploring dialogue options with him when I realized that items were respawning- notably, the TACO at Galla's, the thug who you have your first real battle with (though he's just standing there and doesn't trigger a battle), the first HealGrease you get (which triggers the cutscene associated with it), and maybe some other stuff. Figuring my game is messed up somehow, I looked for information on this glitch and could find almost nothing at all, anywhere, except someone mentioning it offhandedly and saying it's caused by loading autosaves or something.

So I restart the game, this time using manual saves only... and right after I pick up Grumpos, the glitch is back, sort of. The TACO at Galla's is back, as is the chest outside with 50 bucks inside, but the thug and HealGrease are not, at least not yet. If it were just a matter of cleaning up the returning items it wouldn't be a big deal, but picking up the TACO actually adds to your total as though you've found a brand new one, and I don't want to mess up the game that way.

Does anyone have any idea how to prevent or fix this glitch? Or do I have to just leave that TACO taunting me on the floor forever and hope the rest of the game goes smoothly without similar issues?

Yeah I'm afraid you'll have to discipline yourself in not picking it up a second time. I liked this bug the first time through since it made finding all the TACOs easier. I think it's possible to go over the max count without it screwing anything (apart from making it easier/earlier to get them all of course).

There are only a few cases where enemies appear to re-appear (but as you noticed they (thankfully) don't trigger combat the second time). It's kind of annoying, but since combat's not re-triggered, it's not a big deal. I'm not sure if I've ever played through this without this happening somewhere. As for the other items, even without the respawning you'll be swimming in Healgreases by the end of the game no matter what, so I wouldn't worry about it breaking the economy or anything since the game is by far too generous (especially with combat rewards).

I don't believe the really rare stuff (certain Mystech bits/tools) respawn - could be wrong though.
