Hold down the \ button if you're feeling impatient watching the same slow animation attacks happening again and again. When you hold the \ button the animations tgoes speed up from cut scenes to the battles to regular gameplay as well. I mean even though this has way less battles of games of this type the animations are still very slow. Be a bit careful though cause it ends up going almost too fast thus making it more likely to make mistakes in the battles. I only know about the \ cause someone said something about using it for going through a cutscene faster and I figured to try it during the battles.

Note I only tried it for a few fights so far. IF anyone else has tried it can it lead to any potential problems in the game such as bugs or whatever? Hopefully, it will cause no problems cause I think it nullifies the biggest flaw of the game that hte combat so far at least seems a bit repetitive and slow (unfortunately the former might be like this post. unfortunately the former might be like this post. :-p). Just went to the place after Sunder in the game btw.

Funny thing is that I saw something similar in another JRPG style RPG called Enchanted Arms for the Xbox 360 which let oen fastfoward through the combat animations by holding down the y button.

Chrono Cross for the PSX I think had something even more similar for the whole game after beating it once which I think let you fastfoward through everything.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm fairly early on and I'm already annoyed by the slow battle animations (just had to revert to a save prior to going through the junkyard so that I can get the second gun). It wouldn't surprise me if it caused glitches, but I think I'm gonna take the risk.

The / is a general speed-up which works everywhere. It was implemented in one of the later patches for exactly this reason. Also, it can help avoid the Lucko-Bug (As I've already stated here).
Beware that I had this magic button causing stale-mates in battes (especially the hive level) where the game was basically stuck in an attack animation that never ended and left everybody idling without any GUI visible. I had to kill the process.

That bug was present without even using the speedup key. :) Fortunately it's rare enough.

Ok, that's good, in a way. I haven't gotten that bug again and I forward *everything* :P
Bumping, because by god is this useful and I'm pretty late in the game (With only 1 party member left to go) and I hate the length of the animations.

Oh boy if I had this early on this game would have been so much more fun. Thank you OP!
This button would be even more useful if the game had some sort of auto-combat system in place. Even a mere "beat-attack the nearest enemy" would have been nice. As it is, you have to let go of the fast-forward button to issue a command every so often.
Here's a way to keep it on without constantly holding \ down.

Hold down \ during battle, then release it during the victory fanfare before the Battle Booty screen. It will stay on even though you let go of \. Useful if you know you won't be fighting for a while.
Does anyone know if the problem described here:
( can not post any like atm for some reason - must be spam protection, look at Steam forums of this game at thread "Is it normal that camera pans are so slow? " )

is fixed in the GOG version? Or maybe another workaround for this problem. I still have the old version on CD and wanted to play this. I know about the button to speed but. But this is not how the game is meant to be played and I don't care if I see the same animation again and again.

The main problem is: Back then the speed of those animations was okay but nowadays on some newer computer(maybe of incompatibility with newer hardware) combat speed seems very slow which is a bug in the game or incompatibility with newer hardware. We should not have to constantly use the key for this(which probably makes it too fast then).

Edit: Neverming. I tried my old CD version again and it worked now. Maybe I forgot some patches when I tried in the past or it really was the thing with the resolution someone at Steam mentioned. He said if resolution ingame is set to desktop resolution the cam in combat would be faster. This worked. I think I always set resolution lower when I tried in the past(for more old school feeling because back then it was only low resolution computer and graphic cards).
