Hello,
I used to play alone in the dark with windows 8.1 properly by uninstalling the windows update KB3000850 and it works fine. No more problem with graphics.
But since I've updated to W10 64 bits the graphics problem came back. In the start menu it only white and black and the caracters are only squares...
I've tried to download GLEW and put it on bin directory it won't works. Tried to put on windows 2000 95/98 compatibility mode won't work too.
Tried to find the KB3000850 update, I didn't found it
Please help me

Can you post your specs? I have the same problem with Windows 10 Home Edition. I am on a Lenovo Y50-70:
GeForce 840M
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4510U CPU @ 2.00GHz
Current resolution: 1536 x 864, 60Hz
Driver version: 353.62

I also saw in the download page there was an article about disabling supersampling. Have you tried that? I can't even find that option on my Nvidia Panel:
http://www.gog.com/support/alone_in_the_dark_the_new_nightmare/potential_issues_with_supersampling_dsr_factors_feature_on_highend_geforce_cards

Maybe we can use your post to collaborate.

Greetings,
My specs are :

Intel® Core™ i7 4700HQ
Windows 10 home 64 bits
17.3" 16:9 Résolution 1920 x 1080 (Full HD)
NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 765M 2 Go GDDR5
Drivers : 353.62

Setting OFF DSR factors doesn't change anything.
I think it's a software issue but I can't tell....

I also think there is a problem with the software. I actually I'm quite sure is a problem on the operative system. The same error that was affecting Windows 8.1 and it's famous update is now affecting Windows 10. But if we can understand what was the problem with the update kb3000850 that caused the glitches, then we can maybe find a work around in W10. But I don't know what happened with that update and why did affect this game. Maybe is something related to OpenGL support?
I think it's a problem with the W10 security. Tried to find on Google but I found that thoses updates KB... are for update security so I think windows doesn't allow access to something to play without glitches...
These are the problem the update wanted to fix:

KB 3005576 "0x0000009F" Stop error when you connect a dock or a keyboard to a device in Windows RT 8.1
KB 2989252 Excel freezes for a short time when you open an Excel workbook on a network share in Windows 8.1 or Windows RT 8.1
KB 3005692 Bluetooth device cannot reconnect to the computer in Windows 8.1 or Windows RT 8.1
KB 3005781 You cannot print an A3 size document in Windows 8.1 or Windows 7
KB 2993843 You cannot eject media or "Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media" icon does not appear
KB 3009054 You encounter some OneDrive issues in Windows 8.1 and Windows RT 8.1
KB 3006135 New page cannot be displayed in OneNote app in Windows 8.1 or Windows RT 8.1
KB 3005308 Some MOV files cannot be played in Windows 8.1
KB 3007047 You cannot receive a fax after you install the Fax service on Windows Server 2012 R2

There was other people reporting that Avast Antivirus was causing problems. Do you use Avast?
The only thing I see can be a problem with graphics is this:

KB 3005308 Some MOV files cannot be played in Windows 8.1

Maybe AITD uses some mov files for the Menu? I don't know so I will check out.
Other solution can be to install Klite Codec Pack. Have you done it?

I will try to uninstall Avast and Install Klite Codec Pack and I will post here what's the result.

---RESULT:

Is not a problem related to Avast nor Klite Codec Pack. It must be a problem with OpenGL, I have also tried glitch32.dll and all the glitch project files, and they can't fix it. Windows 10 works on DirectX 12, maybe there is the problem.

Tried to reinstall properly doesn't worked.
Tried to force D3D and openGL by command line : doesn't work
Same problem here! You´re not alone! Win10 Pro with all grey screen in the game. If i find something ill post here.
Ok, I tried by using Nvidia customized options, set all to compatibility mode, but anything works. Let's keep this post alive and posting our results, there must be a way to make it work. I also tried by forcing DirectX to work as a previous version. I modified the shortcut: "C:\GOG Games\Alone in the Dark - The New Nightmare\launch.exe" -dx9 (also tried with -dx10). This should force DirectX to work in compatibility mode. But didn't work for me. Same problem.
I read the post of a guy in french. He found a partial solution. The problem is in alone4.exe. If you use the .exe file I attach (from AITD The New Nightmare - DEMO) you can see the problem is gone. DO NOT replace the original file alone4.exe, copy it somewhere else or just change the extension. Copy and paste this .exe to the game directory and try it. It will work BUT as the demo.

If you use 7-zip to open both exes files (from GOG and the DEMO) you will see there are 3 files inside. I think the problem is solved when we combine these files. I guess the failure is in .text file. So If we get how to put the DEMO .text file, that is working fine into the GOG exe, the problem should be solved.

The issue is that 7-zip lets you extract files inside the .exe but doesn't let you modify the files inside or create an .exe again, so we need to get to that point, but as this user posted here, the problem is in alone4.exe, try to get to donwload different versions if you find them and post the results here.

Thanks to consciencek!

PD: GOG doesn't let me upload the file so I paste the link:

Nice find! At leasy we have a path to find the solution.
I tried to find the atari forum to see if anyone had any idea but it seems that it´s off.

I saw another file called "212_Aloneindark4v1..7z" that fixed the cut scenes until win8. I tried that but it didn´t work either. In win8 it worked perfectly thou.

Edit: Just tried your file and it worked. But as you say in demo mode :(

There is a program called PE Explorer that can edit .EXE files:
http://www.heaventools.com/overview.htm

Although i´m a bit afraid to install this tools in my main machine i´ll see if i nstall it in another machine. As i don´t know anything abou exe editing it will be a more or less shot in the dark.

Looking at this tread in steam forum:
http://steamcommunity.com/app/259190/discussions/0/626329820685043351/

We can see that it´s not a win10 related problem. People there running win 7 and win 8 talk about the problem too.
Nice, I have tried a lot of programs out there. The only one I can say it works is a program called HxD that let us modify the .exe Hexadecimal and it actually modify the files inside the .exe. So if you open both .exe's and compare them you can copy lines from one .exe to the other and then save as alone4.exe and try, I'm doing that and trying. I managed to get the same filesize for the .text file and "combine" both .exe's but it seems that the problem is somewhere else in the file, the only way I find is to keep trying. The software is trustable and if you want to donwload it, just use this link to get the installer:

https://mega.nz/#!eRFgmabI!cygXz_mXlag59UqwhSNDtHn252cjZPbZdxBNALSrn8A

Check out the attached image to see what I'm talking about, hope that if we 3 start trying things we will be able eventually to find the lines that are doing the failure. I think they are at the end of the file where on the right side there is some text about graphics.

Note that the files are almost the same, there are not so many differences, we just have to find the differences that are related to graphics control and try it to one file to another, copy paste, and save as a new third file, copy to the game directory and try. Good luck and let keep us updated on news!

I found a shortcut: Go to Analysis > File-compare > Compare... Set the two files and click OK. Then press F6 to navigate forward in all the differences and Shift+F6 to go backwards to the last difference. With this we skip trying to look for ourselves for all the differences. We are almost there! :)
