Is there any way to remap the controls? Specifically, something like wasd for basic movement? A config or option file I have missed?

As far as I know, there's no way within the official capacity of the game to remap keys. However, since it uses DOSBox, you can hit Ctrl+F1 and remap the keyboard layout for DOSBox itself.
