Is it just me or can the game not be beaten because the enemies shoot way too fast and you have no chance to return fire before you are hit with the next salvo?

This is extremely annoying after the teleportation and throwing the pompon to the snakes:

When you get down the chimney - even after throwing in the grenade - there is no chance to escape the fire of the three or four foes in the room below. You cannot shoot back and even running away is barely possible.
But even then, turning around and returning fire or run away (up or down the stairs) and then returning will catch you in their crossfire.
I assume it's because of DOSbox - I cannot remember having this problem when playing it in 1994.

Any solution for this?
Thanks.
The devs knew the fights are unfair, as there is a cheat zone near the front door of the mansion that allows to jump over the whole part of trying to get inside. I do think the game is largely unplayable because of the insane difficulty curve in the combat.

Listen up guys the direct way is never the rightious.

Never get in a dog fight with more than 2 mobs

means lure them away and kill em seperatly.

If this masterplan doesnt work fighting is not the solution

ur problem is u dont ve the right combat technique

save often before a fight and test the best way to fight

evrybody knows the steering is clunky and so s ur art of fight.

Dont change ur position in fight and repeat the same manouvres until he s dead

seek a location (narrow ways where he must move into ur sword)

always think of saving amunition use melee weapons like „bratpfanne“

use heal flasks during fight -its time enough

ur problem is solved the three guys with the billiard ball is mentioned in a former contribution of mine.

Last rule never mess with the devs or u wasted
I double that, the game is unplayable.

I'm getting stun locked left and right T_T.

Why did they do it? The game looks so good, but the combat is broken.
You can actually do a surprising amount of stuff by getting really close to shooting enemies and just meleeing them.
Because then they will shoot past you and can't hit you if you are close.
Granted that only really works well with single enemies.

Use doorways to your advantage, this also works well with melee, almost too well in some cases.

Also you can sometimes use corners, where the enemies can't shoot back at you but you can hit them, but it's tricky.

The game is not supposed to be an action-shooter anyway, at least not mainly.
You're not supposed to be able to easily mow down everything.

Fights become much easier in the maze when you use corners to shield from shoots. Also, if you go into melee distance they can't shoot you.

So, if it is far, use corners to make the mob waste ammo, and while he reloads, run towards it. Finish the mob easy with fists or any weapon.

If you don't want to deal with damage later in the game, you can use the trick of poisoning the wine in the kitchen and drinking it. Before starting the dying animation, press enter again to go to the inventory and drink it again. Do that a lot of times, After reaching -32000 hit points, the number will become positive, and you'll become near immortal.

Explanation: This game is 16 bit, like any DOS games. the minimum and maximum integer numbers you can fit on 16 bit is any number between -32768 of 32767 (computers considers 0 as positive). By doing a bigger number, you generate an overflow, and the computer switches the negative or positive number, so for the computer, -32768 + x = 32767 - x.
