For some players, regardless of computer specifications, selecting multiplayer in AVP Classic sends the CPU up to 100% usage and the framerate down to an unplayable 1 FPS or worse. Leaving multiplayer mode does not cease the excessive CPU usage and the game must be exited before it will behave normally again. In some cases, the slowdown is sufficient to require shutting down the game from the task manager. The cause is not yet known and basic troubleshooting of common issues has failed to either identify the cause or provide a solution.

If you are experiencing this problem, Support ticket # 833 is open regarding this issue here:

Add a note stating you are experiencing this problem with your system specs and add a DXDIAG.txt file so that the techs can research the issue to find the cause and patch it out or find a workaround. The more folks who experience this problem and report it, the more likely that techs will see the fact that the problem exists and deal with it.
