This game kind of reminds me of a game called Restricted Area..... Is it similar at all?
Was thinkin about purchasing it .

From having a quick look at the Restricted Area site and screenshots, visually they do look similar, but I get the impression that gameplay wise they aren't quite the same. RA looks more RPG oriented than AS. AS is all about huge numbers of aliens swarming the player.

Having never played RA, though, I can't be certain what it's gameplay is like.

Well, I have played RA and the monsters swarm you big time and you collect bionic body parts for your body that make you more lethal..... I bought RA seven years ago but cannot play because of a Starforce error and I was emailed by someone at Whiptail...(the developer) telling me that since the game is 7 years old that they no longer supported it.

So I decided to get a cracked copy (first time ever) and it plays ok except the mouse pointer is nearly uncontrolable which makes the game play unbearable...... I am going to uninstall it and buy this game ....so we shall see how similar they are to each other....

In that case, RA sounds more like Alien Shooter 2 as you can upgrade skills and weapons and armour in AS2.
Well it is sort of like RA except like you say the upgrade system would make Alien 2 Reloaded much more like it especially since it is a newer game than the original with better graphics. The original Alien Shooter game is much more intence than RA as well as it really pours on the monsters to such an extreme extent at the beginning of the game that I am having a very tough time just starting the third level playing the female character. She just keeps getting whacked over and over..... Got tired of reloading the level so I had to stop until another time. Is Alien Shooter 2 as tough getting started?

Is the female harder to play than the male?

In the first game, as far as I know the characters gender is a visual difference only, no difference to gameplay. However, I could be wrong as I've only played a little bit of AS1. And yes, AS1 is difficult. I think I got to level 3 or 4 before I just kept getting swarmed.

AS2, on the other hand, does have different characters with different starting skills which you can then upgrade with levels, so the character does make a difference.

Also, AS2 does appear to have an easier start as I've not been completely and utterly swarmed to death yet. Made it to about level 5 or so and was still coping fine, but then got distracted with other games. (I have a rather bad habit of starting a game then moving to another, and another, and another, unless I really focus myelf to work at a game or unless a game really grabs hold of me for a while).
Well korell, you and I are very much alike when it comes to electronic gaming!! I also jump from game to game without finishing them....Now I don't feel like I am alone in game hopping .... LoL... I blame GOG, they tempt me with many cheap games and once installed they have to be played, regardless of any other games already in progress! :P

RA is quite close to Diablo 2 AFAIK, while AS 2 is more like Crimsonland with Diablo flavor.

/off
Yeah, same thing here... But i can stop whenever i want! Honest!!! :P

Better than RA.
Yeah the woman is more "fast" and the man has more "life" even in Alien Shooter 1, at least in the first expansion pack that is what I am playing now I seen it´s like this.

What is better is a tricky question, speed doesnt look to be really useful, but this big aliens with laser cannons are a pain, and to flank them is much better to be fast.

The advantage of having more life is pretty obvious.
