I was trying to quickly copy my Alien Shooter savegame from my desktop computer onto my laptop so I could continue playing on the go. By savegame I mean the data that allows me to continue an interrupted game from the beginning of the first unbeaten level. A savegame is definitely there, I can click "Continue" in the main menu and choose my player name from the list and play.

However, I did not find the file in any of the usual places. The only files in the game's directory that have been modified less than a year ago are the logfiles and GOG's uninstaller. I could find no suspicious files or directories in my user folder, the My Documents folder, or any of the AppData folders. There is nothing in "<User>\Saved Games" or "<User>\My Documents\My Games" either.

I have found a thread on a Malaysian forum where someone asks the same question, and has a file current.sav in the game's directory, which seems to be what I'm looking for. However, my installation of the GOG version does not have that file.

Before I'm driving myself crazy looking for the thing, does anyone know where it is?

Found it :P

All the data is stored in the registry:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SigmaTeam\AlienShooter\<PlayerName>

I didn't even think to look there, I just assumed that the "current.sav" file was possibly moved somewhere else (and maybe renamed)!

If you want to transfer the save data, just use regedit, navigate to the AlienShooter node, right-click and export to a file. Then double-click that file on another computer. It also makes it very easy to cheat by simply changing the values, if that's your thing =)
